The energy technology company Smartports is continuing its expansion within the public sector and is now entering into a collaboration with Kramfors Municipality and Sollefteå Municipality, which jointly own High Coast Airport. The partnership involves the installation of a CAP 10 Smartports system in the airport’s parking area – an important step towards more sustainable and future-proof infrastructure in the region.

“This is a collaboration that sets an example for how municipalities can take responsibility for the green transition while strengthening their local attractiveness. High Coast Airport is now becoming a role model for how energy, transportation and innovation can work together,” says Julian Lundberg, CEO and founder of Smartports.

An energy hub for the future of travel

The new Smartports CAP 10 solution combines solar panels, electric vehicle charging, and battery storage in a scalable system. The facility will be installed in the airport’s parking area and will provide both travelers and visitors with access to sustainable EV charging – powered directly by locally produced solar energy.

“Our ambition is to contribute to more sustainable travel while also strengthening the airport’s role as an important regional hub. Through the collaboration with Smartports, we are taking a concrete step toward reducing climate impact and showing that even smaller airports can be at the forefront,” says Janne Mellander, Business Developer at Kramfors Municipality.

“This initiative not only strengthens our airport, but also enhances the attractiveness of the entire region. By offering sustainable EV charging directly in the parking area, we are showing that even smaller communities can be at the forefront of climate-smart solutions. It is a concrete example of how, together with our municipalities and innovative partners like Smartports, we can create real value for both residents and visitors,” says Per Enroth, CEO and Airport Director at Höga Kusten Airport.

A step toward sustainable regional development

The initiative at High Coast Airport is the first of its kind in the region and marks the beginning of a broader collaboration between Smartports and municipal stakeholders in northern Sweden.

“The combination of local grounding and national innovative capacity is key to accelerating the energy transition. Through projects like this, we show that climate-smart solutions can be implemented quickly, efficiently, and profitably,” concludes Julian Lundberg.

About Smartports

Smartports was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Örebro. The company transforms parking areas into revenue-generating energy hubs by combining solar power, electric vehicle charging, and battery storage. This creates scalable energy ecosystems that utilize existing surfaces rather than developing new land – contributing to the green transition while generating new revenue streams for property owners.
