Smartports launches Smart Battery – one of the final pieces in the energy hub of tomorrow
Swedish energy technology company Smartports is launching Smart Battery, a new energy storage solution built in Sweden from reused batteries from the automotive industry. The product strengthens Smartports’ integrated energy ecosystem, where solar, storage, and EV charging work together to create local and sustainable energy hubs across Europe.
– Smart Battery fits perfectly into our overall concept. It enables municipalities, property owners, and businesses to store and use their own energy more efficiently – while helping to stabilize the power grid across Europe, says Julian Lundberg, CEO and founder of Smartports.
Energy storage that generates value
With a capacity of 40 kW, Smart Battery can be used for grid support services, peak shaving, and day trading – charging when prices are low and selling when they’re high. This allows users to lower their electricity costs, reduce grid strain, and increase energy self-sufficiency.
– We see strong demand for solutions that are both sustainable and economically smart. By giving a second life to batteries from the automotive industry, we reduce the need for imported energy while promoting a circular economy, Julian Lundberg continues.
Launching across the European Union
Smart Battery has been developed in collaboration with Rebaba, a leading player in EV battery reuse. The product will be sold under the Smartports brand and installed in all current and upcoming Smartports projects across the EU. It will also be offered through the Smart Package and distributed via resellers and wholesalers.
The goal for the first year is 1,000 installed batteries, representing a total capacity of around 40 MW.
– Smart Battery is one of the final pieces that makes our vision complete – enabling Smartports to build sustainable, self-sufficient energy hubs across Europe, concludes Julian Lundberg
About Smartports
Smartports was founded in 2023 and has its headquarters in Örebro, Sweden. The company transforms parking spaces into revenue-generating energy hubs by combining solar panels, electric vehicle charging, and battery storage. This creates scalable energy ecosystems that utilize existing surfaces instead of exploiting new land, contributing to the green transition while generating new revenue streams for property owners.
