Smoltek Hydrogen has received an order for a preliminary study of electrochemical devices
This press release is an English version of the previously published Swedish version, which has interpretive precedence.
Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB (publ) ("Smoltek" or the "Company") announces that the subsidiary Smoltek Hydrogen has received an order to carry out a small preliminary study of a special type of electrochemical cell, adapted for electronic devices. This could open new business opportunities for Smoltek.
The buyer of the feasibility study, an electronic device manufacturer, will evaluate the possibility of using Smoltek's solutions and extensive expertise in nanotechnology for a specific electrochemical application.
As part of the feasibility study, Smoltek Hydrogen will analyze the main technical principles of the commercially available solutions on the market. This could potentially pave the way for further collaboration and future business potential.
“Thanks to our close access to advanced equipment at Chalmers University of Technology, we can carry out the feasibility study quickly and efficiently. We will investigate whether our nanostructured electrode, originally developed for hydrogen applications, can be adapted for this application. If this is the case, we see a very interesting business opportunity for commercial use”, Fabian Wenger, Head of R&D Smoltek Hydrogen says.
“This is a common scenario in the development of new advanced materials. A potential customer observes what we are working on and becomes curious about whether our solutions can solve its challenges. This feasibility study is strategically significant, as the solution is intended to be implemented in products that are already on the market and generate revenue. In general, there is great potential in this project because the application area is relevant in several industries”, Ellinor Ehrnberg, President of Smoltek Hydrogen explains.
“The business potential for Smoltek's carbon nano-based material technology is enormous. In industries where carbon nanofibers have never been used before, our patents cover the entire sector, including all possible variations and applications. This is why Smoltek has strategically applied for so many broad and comprehensive patents in the field. It is the most innovative customers who see new possible areas of use, which makes this type of request extra exciting”, Ellinor elaborates
However, Smoltek Hydrogen's core focus is still on developing cutting-edge solutions to produce green hydrogen through PEM electrolysis with extremely low iridium content. At the same time, the subsidiary sees increased interest from manufacturers of fuel cells, players in the automotive industry and manufacturers of various electronic devices, which indicates further uses for the technology platform.
