Wish list for fathers revealed

The TV remote, a lie-in and a pair of socks - a new survey has revealed the simple pleasures sought by dads this Fathers Day.

According to the figures obtained by gentlemen's clothing and lifestyle website Socked, the majority of Fathers aren't that interested in extravagant gifts such as 'experience days' or tickets to sporting events.

Most of the 350 dads approached for the survey said that while they liked getting presents, they would trade it for a quiet life and small, immediate pleasures like a pint or a big bar of chocolate.

"Life these days seems to be non-stop," said Socked.co.uk Gentleman Creation Officer Mark Hall, "It seems most fathers would prefer a relaxing day off rather than something that involves more effort somewhere down the line.

"As a sock retailer, we're also delighted that men want socks as part of their simple Father's Day presents," said Hall, "They're an ideal pocket money gift for the old man."

The Socked.co.uk Fathers Day wish list included:

The TV remote for the day

Beer

A Lie-in

Chocolate

Football team to win

Kids to be 18 and leave home

Someone to mow the lawn

A walk with the dog that ends up at the pub

Socks

Clothes vouchers

"The clothes vouchers are interesting," said Hall. "Men like to get clothes as gifts, but they've got to be there to buy them. Many are the novelty T-shirt or pair of socks that have gone unworn and get stuffed to the back of the drawer."

On the other side of the coin, dads also told Socked of the presents they wouldn't fancy for Fathers Day:

DIY store vouchers

Car wash kit

Makeover

Tickets for a show

"World's Best Dad" novelty items

"What the anti-wish list shows us is that busy dads don't want anything that might need extra effort," said Socked.co.uk 's Mark Hall.

"At face value, DIY vouchers might sound like a great idea, but the consequence is that subsequent weekends will be spent putting up shelves or wallpapering the dining room.

"Give your dad a break on June 16th. All he wants is a quiet life - is that too much to ask?"
