Certain Industries Expose Workers to Asbestos leaving them Vulnerable to Mesothelioma, A Rare and Deadly Cancer

August 25, 2010, Wellesley, MA – Jobs in the mechanical, construction and shipbuilding industries are most often linked to asbestos exposure.  Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare and deadly cancer caused by asbestos exposure.   These individuals may have handled asbestos directly or were in an environment with a high concentration of asbestos fibers in the air.

“It’s disheartening that some asbestos companies knew about the life-threatening dangers of asbestos exposure but deliberately chose to keep this from its employees in order to protect its profits,” says James Sokolove, Chairman of Sokolove Law, one of the nation’s largest marketers of legal services.  “There are thousands of people that have gotten mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos; these people need to know their legal rights so they can prepare and do what’s best for themselves and their families.”

The following industries and jobs have put individuals at risk of developing mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure:

•    Construction:  Carpenter, drywall worker, insulator, electrician, pipefitter, and painter
•    Aerospace:  Aeronautical engineers, aircraft mechanics, aircraft production workers
•    Automotive:  Auto repair mechanics, automotive parts manufacturing such as brakes and brake lining
•    Shipping and Shipbuilding:  Shipyard worker, sailors, merchant marines, longshoreman
•    Railroad: Engine/boiler room workers, locomotive engineers, laggers
•    Metal Craftsmen:  Welders, tool and die makers, tinsmith, steel and iron workers
•    Manufacturing:  Boilermakers, textile mill workers, machine operatives, paper mill workers and others.
•    Others:  Firefighter, miners, custodians, roofers and hairdressers.
