Accutane Lawsuits Continue to Grow

Report this content

After more than a decade of legal battles, drugmaker Hoffman-LaRoche continues to be sued in dangerous drug lawsuits over Accutane.

According to Lawyers USA Online, more than 7,000 Accutane lawsuits were consolidated in multidistrict litigation in New Jersey state court. The plaintiffs alleged that Roche failed to warn users of Accutane about the risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease. So far, 11 lawsuits have gone to trial and eight of the cases returned with verdicts in favor of the plaintiffs.

Eight of the dangerous drug lawsuits have resulted in awards ranging from $2 million to $25 million.

The removal of Accutane from the drug market in 2009 led to an increase in court filings against LaRoche and even more cases are expected to be filed.
