The Iowa Board of Nursing Home Administrators has brought nursing home abuse charges against two administrators at Iowa facilities that allege they each acted in negligence as resident-on-sexual abuse occurred at their facilities.

Cynthia Gentz, who served as the administrator of the Abington on Grand from November 2008 to January 2011, is the subject of one board’s inquests. The charges against her are based on state records that indicate a male resident who was committed to the nursing home by court order in 2009 repeatedly threatened to kill and sexually accosted other residents reported Des Moines Register.

At one point, the man was seen having sex with another resident, but workers at the home were instructed to only monitor them and not interfere.

Steve Drobot, the former manager of the Windmill Manor in Coralville between December 2008 and March 2010, is the subject of the other inquest. Those charges are based on state records that indicated a male resident was found in bed with a female form the dementia unit in. In this instance, both patients were undressed from the waist down.

Another incident of nursing home abuse at Coralville occurred one month later, when nursing home workers saw the two residents together again in the male resident’s room. The female resident was described as upset, confused and highly agitated, and was injured to the point that she needed sedation.

In both Gentz and Drobot’s cases, they are accused of concealing information about the incidents and being charged with professional incompetence and negligence.
