Boeing and Lockheed Sued Over Plane Crash

Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. are being sued by the widow of a U.S. Air Force pilot claiming defective components in a fighter jet caused a 2010 crash that killed her husband.

According to Law360 (subscription required) Anne Haney claims that the military contractors knew about defects in her husband’s fighter jet, including that the system allowed contaminated air to enter the plane and that it had a flawed backup system that did not automatically provide the pilot with oxygen in the event of a malfunction. She also alleges that the warning sensors on the fighter jet were insufficient and there were no proper instructions to notify pilots or maintenance crews about thesystem flaws.

The wrongful death lawsuit also claims that the companies involved received multimillion dollar contracts to investigate the defects and failures of the jet and its life support systems.

A similar wrongful death lawsuit was filed in February against Boeing by the estates of 23 people who died in a January 2010 plane crash onEthiopian Airlines.
