Chilcott Issues Warning for Birth Control

The Warner Chilcott Company issued a warning for its birth control because certain packs may be defective, leaving women at risk for unintended pregnancy.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, an inspection of the facility last summer found manufacturing violations at a Warner Chilcott plant in Peurto Rico, which led to the distribution of the potentially defective contraceptives. The agency said that from 2006 to the present, estradiol 50 microgram and Ovcon 1 milligram tablets failed to meet requirements on various stability tests.

In November of 2011, Warner Chilcott issued voluntary recalls for more than 20,000 blister packs of Ovcon because of subpotency concerns. Two similar recalls were issued in November 2011 and January 2012 for the same pill.
