Ford Sued in Product Liability Lawsuit

A product liability lawsuit was filed against Ford Motor Co. claiming it sold trucks with defective fuel tank linings for 10 years and concealed the issue from consumers.

According to Reuters, the lawsuit was filed in New Jersey Federal court on March 14 and claims that fuel tank linings on 10 E- and F- series truck models manufactured between 1999 and 2008 would “separate and flake off.” This allegedly caused the fuel system to become clogged with debris and rust, causing the vehicles to suddenly malfunction or stop.

The product liability lawsuit also says that in 2007, Ford issued a “secret” technical service bulletin to car dealerships informing them of the issue, but never recalled nor offered repair for the affected vehicles.

The lead plaintiffs allege breach of warranty, fraud and unjust enrichment, among other charges. They seek punitive and compensatory damages, as well as other remedies.
