Indoor Tanning May be Banned for Teens

Teen tanning bed addicts in 18 U.S. states may soon be disappointed as lawmakers are considering banning those under 18 from using indoor tanning beds.

According to USA Today, most states already regulate teen tanning bed use by requiring parental consent. Ten states have age limits in places for tanning bed usage ranging from 13 to 16.5. Earlier this year, California enacted a ban on indoor tanning for all minors.

Close to 30 million people, including 2.3 million teens, use indoor tanning beds every year, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Indoor tanning is linked to an increased risk of developing skin cancer such as melanoma.
