Johnson & Johnson Sued Over Transvaginal Mesh

Report this content

A Nevada woman filed a product liability lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson Inc. claiming the company’s transvaginal mesh device was defective and led to a number of corrective surgeries.

In 2009, Cathleen Ankeman had surgery to implant the Gynecare Prolift + M and AMS Monarc transvaginal mesh device to treat her pelvic organ prolapse. She claims that the transvaginal mesh caused her to experience physical pain and caused permanent injury to her. She eventually required three corrective surgeries to treat the injuries.

The product liability lawsuit also claims that the J&J transvaginal mesh devices have a high injury, failure and complication rate.

The other defendants named in the lawsuit include Ethicon Inc., and American Medical Systems Inc., according to the Southeast Texas Record.
