Medtronic Issues Warning for Defibrillators

Medtronic recently issued a warning for its defibrillators due to a risk of early battery depletion in the devices.

According to MedCity News, the warning was issued for its Entrust and Escudo Implantable Cardioverter- Defibrillators (ICDs).

“Typically, these heart devices have three months of normal operation after the device signals the need for replacement,” said Medtronic spokeswoman Tracy McNulty. “EnTrust devices may require replacement sooner than expected, and result in less than three months of normal operation once the device indicates the need for replacement.”

There were no reports of serious injuries or deaths associated with the devices.

The EnTrust ICDs were first approved in the United States in 2005, but discontinued in April 2011.
