A former California painter settled a worker’s compensation lawsuit for $8.9 million after a workplace injury caused him to suffer physical and mental disorders.

According to The National Law Journal, Antonio Enriquez fell 20 feet from a scaffold on a jobsite in Santa Monica California in 2004. He developed multiple personality disorder and suffered psychotic episodes as a result of the fall. He also experienced injuries to his shoulder and knee.

The settlement, which is among the largest worker’s compensation settlements in California history, will be used to pay for Enriquez’s future medical expenses.
