A new report reveals that work-related deaths in Massachusetts hit 58 in 2011—averaging about 1.1 death a week.

The report is titled “Dying for Work in Massachusetts” and was recently published by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupation Safety and Health (MassCOSH), according to Insurancejournal.com.

The report puts a spotlight on a number of problems of increasing concern such as car accidents that happen on the job and deaths that are caused by construction industry falls. The report also estimates that 1,800 workers were diagnosed with cancers as a result of exposures in the workplace and occupational diseases caused the deaths of 580 workers in Massachusetts.

MassCOSH and the Massachusetts AFL-CIO call for more state and federal regulations to protect workers.
