Airport X-Ray Scans Continue to Raise Concerns

Some experts continue to raise questions about the safety of using full-body X-ray scanners at U.S. airports.

One study found that radiation from the machines may reach organs through the skin and another found there is a high likelihood that some people will develop cancer from the machines due to the volume of people who fly each year.

The European Union has banned body scanners that use radiation and it is against the law in several European countries to give people an X-ray without a medical reason, according to the New York Times.

Little is known about how the machines operate because of security reasons, which leaves some scientists saying that this hinders their evaluations of the systems. One expert thinks that the effective dose could be 45 times as high as the TSA has estimated, which is the same as 10 percent of a single chest X-ray, according to the Times.

If you or a loved one has been harmed by radiation exposure, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact Sokolove Law for a free legal consultation and to find out if you may be able to pursue legal action. For legal help, call (800) 581-6358.
