Asbestos Cleared From College Dorm

With the new school year beginning, parents across the country are dropping off their children at colleges, moving them into new dorm rooms, and doing everything they can to get them ready for class. However, for the 200 students at Wofford College, moving into their dorm also included worries about asbestos exposure.

Asbestos had previously been found in the Spartanburg, South Carolina dormitory, leading to Wofford College officials to organize asbestos abatement procedures. Because the asbestos  removal was not completed by the time some students began arriving early for the new school year, the students were instead temporarily housed in the nearby Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park, WYFF-TV reported.

However, on Monday afternoon the abatement procedures were officially completed, allowing the students to finally move into their new dorm rooms.

"The health and well-being of our students and staff are of the utmost importance to us," said Roberta Bigger, Wofford's dean of students. "We are pleased that the contractor was able to complete the work ahead of schedule and that our staff has been so committed to getting all of our students into their residence halls so quickly.”
