Blind PA Resident Sues Over ATM Accessibility

A blind man in Pennsylvania filed a class action against Univest Bank & Trust Co. claiming the bank’s ATMs do not accommodate people who are blind, which violates the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

Darryl Garner says that the company’s ATMs lack accessibility features for visually impaired individuals, according to Law360 (subscription required). He contends that the ATMS do not meet the specifications of the ADA by lacking Braille instructions, voice guidance, tactile symbols on the keys and other features that are meant to aid those who are visually impaired.

Garner further said that Univest lacks a plan that would ensure its ATMs would comply with the newly updated rules of the ADA, according to Law360.
