BMW Motorcycles Face Probe after Fuel Leakage Complaints

Report this content

BMW R-Series motorcycles are being investigated by federal safety regulators for gasoline leaks that potentially pose a fire hazard. Around 24,000 motorcycles of the series from model years 2005 through 2008, sold across the U.S., will be affected by the probe.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that the housing around the fuel pump can crack causing the gasoline to leak. The Associated Press reports that there have been no reports of any fires or injuries but the NHTSA has received 28 complaints from motorcycle owners including two reports of gas soaking the pant legs of the owners.

The investigators will determine if there is a need for a recall after looking at the frequency of the leaks in the affected motorcycle models.
