Shortly after announcing a recall of regular gasoline in northwestern Indiana due to high levels of a polymeric residue, BP received over 4,000 calls and 800 emails from irate customers alleging that their vehicles needed to undergo repair after fueling up with the recalled gas.

A 50,000-barrel batch of gasoline that was shipped during Aug.13 to Aug. 17 from the Whiting fuel storage terminal contained the bad gas, reports The Associated Press.

The customers whose vehicles have faced starting difficulties or other problems due to the recalled gas can call 1-800-333-3991 or send an email to the company at bpconsum@bp.com. A company spokesperson said that affected customers should approach BP with receipts indicating repairs and fuel purchase.
