A Maryland jury awarded $21 million to the parents of a boy who was born prematurely with cerebral palsy at a Baltimore hospital in 2002.

The family’s cerebral palsy lawsuit claimed Jaylan Norfleet lost oxygen while still in his mother’s womb and that the doctors at the Harbor Hospital should have performed a Caesarean section instead of prolonging the vaginal birth, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Norfleet’s family was awarded $18 million for medical costs, $1 million for noneconomic pain and suffering, and $2 million for lost potential wages.

In June, there was a similar cerebral palsy lawsuit in which a jury awarded $55 million to a Baltimore couple whose child was born with cerebral palsy at Johns Hopkins, in what is believed to be the largest medical malpractice verdict in Maryland history, according to the Sun.
