A Chicago nursing home is being sued after a patient died from an alleged medication overdose.

The deceased, Sonya Eli, died in January 2011 in the Rainbow Beach Nursing Center, as a recent Chicago Tribune article notes. The 200-bed facility in the city's South Side houses and treats adults with mental illness. Earlier this month, a representative for Eli filed suit for wrongful death in the Cook County Circuit Court.

The lawsuit alleges that the nursing center was negligent when it gave Eli “incorrect and excessive doses” of medications. It then failed to properly monitor and report her condition. The lawsuit is seeking damages in excess of $200,000.
