College Has Asbestos Removed From Dormitory

Two-hundred students at Wofford College started had started the school year in their dorms a bit later than most others, as asbestos abatement procedures at the dormitory over the summer took longer than expected.

Asbestos had previously been found in a dormitory at the Spartanburg, South Carolina school, leading to the organization of asbestos abatement procedures for the building. Because the asbestos removal was not completed by the time some students began arriving early for the new school year, the students were instead temporarily housed in the nearby Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park, WYFF-TV reported.

"The health and well-being of our students and staff are of the utmost importance to us," said Roberta Bigger, Wofford's dean of students. "We are pleased that the contractor was able to complete the work ahead of schedule and that our staff has been so committed to getting all of our students into their residence halls so quickly.”

Thankfully, the asbestos abatement procedures were finally completed by early September, allowing the students to finally move into their dorms for the school year.
