Colleges and Employers Ask for Facebook Passwords

Some employers and colleges are asking job applicants and student athletes for their Facebook passwords so their accounts can be accessed during interviews.

According to the San Jose Business Journal, the Maryland Department of Corrections has reportedly been asking job applicants to log into their accounts during interviews so that interviewers may see their friends, wall posts, and any other information they would not otherwise have access to. When the American Civil Liberties Union complained about the department’s actions, they said that they were asking applicants to login “voluntarily.”

Colleges around the country have been taking similar actions, asking student athletes to add a school official to their Facebook friends.
