Criticized Over Tamiflu, Roche Seeks Compromise

Pharmaceutical giant Roche has offered a compromise to its scientific critics who questioned the effectiveness of popular flu-fighter Tamiflu.

Some critics have questioned the drug’s effectiveness and pushed since 2009 for Roche to open access to all its research and clinical trials material about Tamiflu, reports Reuters. Tamiflu has been approved and stocked by governments worldwide to tackle an influenza outbreak.

One of the most vocal critics has been the Cochrane Collaboration, which reviews clinical trials data. Roche said that it has approached Cochrane and proposed to form an advisory board of experts from academia and private institutions to evaluate the data related to Tamiflu, writes Reuters.

Cochrane has urged a boycott Roche’s products until all Tamiflu data is made available for assessment, reports Reuters.
