Developer Cited for Asbestos Crimes

A Kansas City developer has been sentenced to five years of probation and a $10,000 for improperly handling asbestos products on a site he was overseeing work on.

Seventy-one-year-old William M. Threatt Jr. received his sentence this week months after initially pleading guilty to violating the Clean Air Act by improperly removing and disposing of asbestos materials at the Citadel Plaza Redevelopment Site in Kansas City.

Along with Anthony Crompton, an operator at the site, did not properly inspect the site for asbestos, remove asbestos materials before beginning work on the site, ensure that any asbestos materials had been wetted or stored so they would not release fibers into the air, or ensure that individuals working on the site were properly trained to handle asbestos abatement.

The Clean Air Act violations occurred between April 2001 and July 2006.

Crompton also previously pled guilty to similar charges. He was recently sentence to three years probation.
