Dietary Supplements Recalled Due to Health Risks

Standard Process Inc. is voluntarily recalling three dietary supplements because of a potential Salmonella contamination.

The three supplements are Cataplex ACP, Cataplex C, and Pancreatrophin PMG, according to a press release from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall stems from a routine FDA record inspection which revealed that one of the ingredients used in the products may contain Salmonella. The company has stopped distributing the product lots (L114) in question.

The company has not received any reports of adverse side effects related to the recall.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children and frail or elderly people, as well as those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms often include fever, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases the infection could get into the bloodstream and produce illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
