Dunkin’ Brands Sued in Discrimination Lawsuit

Dunkin’ Brands faces a discrimination lawsuit that claims the purveyor of coffee and donuts used “systemic racial discrimination” against minority franchises.

Lead plaintiffs and former franchise owners Reggie and Amy Pretto claims that Dunkin’ Brands “steered” them to open stores in poor neighborhoods by falsely claiming that no opportunities were available in other places, according to The Boston Globe.

The complaint, filed in New Jersey state court, also alleged the company deceived the Prettos about how much money they would make, which led them to filing bankruptcy in 2007.

The African-American couple is seeking corrective damages to prevent Dunkin’ from doing this again. The company has been sued in the past by franchisees over racial discrimination, according to the Globe.
