DuPont Sued in Product Liability Lawsuit Over Herbicide

DuPont has been sued in 29 product liability lawsuits by property owners who claim the company’s herbicide killed their trees.

According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the plaintiffs allege that DuPont promoted Imprelis as a safe and environmentally friendly weed killer when it was actually harmful to trees.

The product liability lawsuit claims that lawn care professionals have said the herbicide is the "lawn care industry's 'Hurricane Katrina' - and the full extent of the damage DuPont's Imprelis product has caused is only beginning to manifest itself."

The complaint also says that there have been reports of thousands of trees that have been affected by the herbicide with "tens of thousands more to come due to the persistent and non-soluble nature of the powerful chemicals in that herbicide."

Dupont is facing similar litigation on Imprelis throughout the U.S. The Environmental Protection Agency ordered the company to stop selling the defective product in August 2011.
