A 54-year-old Florida woman who suffered severe physical and psychological damage as a result of a frightening chain of elevator falls was recently awarded $13 million by a Jacksonville jury.

The Sun Sentinel reports that, according to the lawsuit, failure on the part of a Schindler Elevator Corp. mechanic subjected the plaintiff to a chain of dangerous falls in an elevator that began at the 23rd floor and ended in the basement. The incident resulted in the woman suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, partial paralysis of her left leg, and pseudo seizures.

The award comes more than seven years after the suit was filed as the case was delayed due to legal issues.
