The number of people infected by an outbreak of Hepatitis C that occurred at Exeter Hospital in New Hampshire is now 27, according to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services.

In June, the number of infected people was 20, including one employee. The hospital contacted 879 patients who were treated at its cardiac catherization lab and recovery unit between April 1, 2011, and May 25, 2012, according to CBS News.

A number of lawsuits have already been filed against the hospital. Reportedly, 59 former patients so far have sued Exeter, 47 as part of a class action, according to Foster’s Daily Democrat.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office are investigating the outbreak to determine if a criminal act took place.
