The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about cholesterol drugs known as statins, informing patients that the drugs may increase their risk of diabetes.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the agency reported that it will add the risk of diabetes to the labeling for statins such as; Lescol, Crestorm Pravachol, Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Altoprev and Livalo.

The new warnings will include data about patients experiencing confusion and memory loss.

The FDA noted that Mevacor (lovastatin) should not be combined with other medicines due to interactions that may lead to muscle injury. Statins have recently been the subject of heated debate as to whether they are safe to use on healthy people to prevent heart disease.
