FDA Issues Warning to Diet Pill Maker

The FDA has issued a warning to Globe All Wellness LLC saying the company’s supplement, SlimXtreme, contains an obesity drug that is no longer sold in the U.S. because it raises the risk of stroke and heart attack.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the company claimed that its dietary supplement was an herbal remedy for weight loss and male sexual performance. However, the FDA says that its laboratory tests have found that sibutramine hydrochloride, an ingredient in the product, can cause “serious health risks to consumers, including adverse health consequences such as heart attack, stroke, increased blood pressure, hallucinations, coma, and tachycardia for individuals with existing medical conditions."

The FDA also said it found that while the company’s supplement ViaXtreme is advertised as being "prepared exclusively from all-natural herbs and used for centuries to enhance sexual pleasure," it actually contains sildenafil, an active ingredient in the prescription drug Viagra.

In the warning letter, the agency said that the undeclared presence of those drugs violated the law, giving Globe All Wellness 15 days to comply.
