FDA Warns Against Online Pharmacies

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning for consumers to keep away from online pharmacies, many of which it says could be selling counterfeit drugs that may cause more harm than good.

The Associated Press (AP) reports that the FDA launched a campaign, BeSafeRx, after reports of cases of the public being sold counterfeit drugs online.

Research shows that more and more people prefer online shopping because of savings and convenience. However, shoppers at many online pharmacies often end up being sold drugs that are fake, expired, lack the active ingredient, have the wrong amount of active ingredient, or contain harmful chemicals.

Such anomalies in drugs may cause dangerous side effects, create harmful interactions with other medications, and lead to illness and even death.

The FDA’s new website, www.FDA.gov/BeSafeRx, explains the dangers of illegal unregistered pharmacies and contains tips on how to identify them. It also links to state databases of licensed pharmacies, reports AP.If you or a loved one has been harmed by an unsafe drug, contact Sokolove Law today for a free consultation and to find out if a dangerous drug lawyer may be able to help you.
