Ford Explorers and Chrysler 200s Probed

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating the safety of Ford Explorer SUVs and Chrysler 200 midsize sedans.

The Ford investigation involves SUVs from the 2011 model year. Regulators are looking into complaints that the power steering may fail on 83,000 of the vehicles, according to USA Today. The NHTSA received 15 reports of the problem from consumers. Some drivers reported they received a warning message before the power steering failed.

The NHTSA probe of Chrysler vehicles is for sedans from the 2011 model year that have 3.6 liter V-6 engines. The NHTSA received 15 reports of engines stalling without warning while coasting to a stop, according to USA Today.
