General Mills Sued for False Advertisement

General Mills faces a consumer fraud lawsuit alleging the company’s Yoplait Greek yogurt should not be classified as yogurt.

Greek yogurt is very trendy right now and consumers pay a premium price for it over traditional yogurt. It is made by straining out the whey found in regular yogurt by using a cloth or paper bag.

The class action claims that General Mills misrepresented its product as Greek yogurt because it adds Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) to create a thicker product, rather than using a traditional straining method to achieve that consistency. The plaintiffs further claim that they paid a high price for the product and seek damages from the company, according to the complaint.  

Another company that was sued over similar claims is Tropicana. In this case, consumers claim that the company advertises its orange juice as natural when it is heavily processed.
