Google To Be Investigated For Tracking Apple Users

Google is being investigated by lawmakers after it was learned that the company had been tracing the activity of some Apple Safari users, a violation of the web browser’s privacy settings.

According to The Hill, the current issue being investigated is in regard to a temporary cookie installed in the browser by Google that lets users interact with the company’s “+1” button on advertisements and websites. This also caused advertisements to be tailored to a user’s browsing history, which is a violation of their privacy settings.

Google claims that the tracking was unintentional and has since been fixed the issue, but state representatives have urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate whether or not the tracking violated a previous settlement the company made. In the settlement, Google was required to accurately represent its privacy policy by imposing a set of policy requirements.
