A new study suggests that older adults who received the H1N1 flu vaccine in 2009 may have an increased risk of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

In the most recent study, researchers from the Laval University in Quebec City tracked newly diagnosed cases of Guillain-Barr in the six months after H1N1 vaccine began in that area, according to Reuters Health. Based on their findings, they calculated that two additional people would be expected to get the disease out of every one million vaccinated against H1N1. They found this risk only applied to people age 50 an older.

Guillain-Barre is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the immune system attacks the body as though it is going after a foreign invader, according to Reuters.
