Hot Beverage Flask Made With Asbestos

A blue insulated hot-beverage flask that was manufactured in China and sold primarily in Europe is being taken off shelves after the discovery of a potential mesothelioma risk caused by the products it is made of.

According to the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) list that identifies potentially harmful and/or defective products, the Leopard-branded “Termo” insulated flask was deemed to be unsafe due to a chemical risk involving asbestos.

Asbestos fibers were detected in the separators of the double glass wall of the thermos flask. Because of this, the product violates the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & restriction of chemicals (REACH) regulation. The product has since been ordered off the market.

The EU’s Consumer Affairs bureau made no mention regarding whether or not the flask was also sold in the United States
