Idaho Midwives Settle Cerebral Palsy Lawsuit for $5M

Report this content

Two Idaho midwives agreed to pay $5 million to settle a cerebral palsy lawsuit filed by a couple who claims they caused their infant to experience permanent brain damage.

Adam and Victoria Nielson claim that Jerusha and Coleen Goodwin were negligent during the birth of their infant, leading to the child’s cerebral palsy, according to the Associated Press.

The mother-daughter midwife team had their licenses suspended last month after three babies died at their birthing center. Investigators found that the women kept improper records, impeded paramedics, withheld information, and failed to facilitate the immediate transfer of babies and mothers to a hospital for emergency care, according to the AP.
