Chrysler has expanded its Jeep Liberty safety recall from March to include 137,000 more SUVs, bringing the grand total to about 347,000 vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration said the lower control arms in the rear suspension of the vehicles can rust and break, potentially leading to a collision. The recall involves SUVs in states where salt is used to clear snow and ice from roads. So far there have been eight reports of the problem.

The initial recall included about 200,000 Jeep Liberties from the 2004 and 2005 model years for this problem, according to the Associated Press. The model years 2006 and 2007 have been added to the recall. The vehicles included in the recall were manufactured from July 3, 2003 through June 29, 2007.

Chrysler said it has not received any complaints about the control arms on the vehicles that were added, but since April it received eight reports of issues from salt-belt states, according to the AP.
