Three Wisconsin women have filed Lexapro lawsuits claiming that the maker of the drug lied about the side effects of theantidepressantthat pregnant women may experience and lead to their children being born with birth defects.

Leah Scott, Kimberlee Fisher, and Kristy Hernandez each filed individual complaints on February 16, 2012 against Forest Laboratories and Forest Pharmaceuticals claiming that they all took Lexapro while they were pregnant. When they eventually gave birth, their children were born with birth defects including cleft lip and palette, club foot and spina bifida.

The dangerous drug lawsuit also claims that the drugmaker knew of the drug’s risks to pregnant women, yet promoted it to expectant mothers. The complaint further states that Forest was negligent by failing to disclose the results of tests it conducted and failed to inform medical professionals of Lexapro’s risks to unborn children.

The damages the three women seek include punitive and exemplary.
