LifeSouth Sued Over HIV Tainted Blood

Report this content

An Alabama man who contracted HIV after an operation has filed a medical negligence lawsuit against LifeSouth Community Blood Centers. The lawsuit claims that the Center’s blood was tainted with HIV.

Howard Midkiff claims that he underwent coronary bypass grafting at Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery on October 18, 2010, where blood from LifeSouth was used, according to NBC affiliate WSFA 12 News. He alleges that LifeSouth discovered the blood was tainted in May 2011 and informed the hospital. Midkiff was diagnosed as HIV-positive after being tested in June 2011.

The medical negligence lawsuit claims that LifeSouth was negligent by providing infected blood and not performing the proper testing that would have prevented its use.
