Louisiana Man Launches Pradaxa Lawsuit

A Louisiana man is one of the latest patients who took the blood-thinning medication Pradaxa and suffered an adverse bleeding event to bring a dangerous drug lawsuit against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals.

Arnold R. Sykes claims in his Pradaxa lawsuit that he was first prescribed the anticoagulant medication on June 1, 2011 to help treat his atrial fibrillation. After beginning his prescription, Sykes says he began spitting up blood and also experienced severe rectal bleeding.

One month into his drug cycle on July 1 he was admitted to the intensive care unit where he required a number of blood transfusions. Doctors also immediately took him off his Pradaxa prescription. Sykes had to undergo a number of operations to save his life, and later claimed that he was never informed of the bleeding risks that Pradaxa use can present, Injury Lawyer News reported.

In his dangerous drug lawsuit, which was filed in June, Sykes claims that Boehringer’s lack of proper warnings regarding potential side effects of Pradaxa led to him taking the product (had he known of the issues, he would have used another method to treat his atrial fibrillation). He is seeking monetary damages that would cover the continued side effects he has experienced since taking the drug.
