Louisiana Public Charter Bans Pregnant Students

A Louisiana public charter school is making headlines because of its unusual policy towards students who are pregnant or suspected to be.

The Delhi Charter School requires that any female student suspected of being pregnant to take a pregnancy test, and if they are, to leave the school, according to Mother Jones.

The “student pregnancy policy” states that any student who is found to be pregnant will be forced to go on home study and it further states that if a student refuses to take a pregnancy test, she will be “treated as a pregnant student” and put on mandatory home study.

The ACLU of Louisiana sent a letter to the school saying the policy is unconstitutional and “in clear violation of federal law,” according to Mother Jones.
