EnergyUSA and Smolinsky Plumbing and Heating agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a Massachusetts man who died after a 2010 propane gas explosion.

William Nichols was working on the heating and air conditioning system in an unfinished duplex when the explosion occurred, according to The Boston Globe. An investigation into the accident found the cause of the explosion was that the propane tank had “virtually no odorant,” which meant the workers would have had no warning of danger prior the explosion, according to the Globe.

The settlement with Nichol’s family is part of a larger $22.5 million settlement that also compensated two other people who survived the blast but were left with permanent injuries
