Man With Cerebral Palsy Completes Half-Marathon

Inspiring news out of the UK, as a man born with cerebral palsy recently overcame the odds and completed a half-marathon despite the bad weather.

Thirty-eight-year-old Adam King was born with athetoid cerebral palsy that has left him unable to speak and confined him to a wheelchair for all his life. Because of the expenses that come with his condition, King recently launched a new fundraising campaign to help improve his quality of life by committing to finish a half-marathon at a recent community day in Littleport, England.

When the day of the marathon came, the weather was not exactly cooperative on the route – which was made up of five laps around the village - and consisted of pouring rain and heavy winds.

However, despite the rough weather, King followed through on his goal and was able to complete the race. In doing so, he raised £1,600 (approximately $2000) from anonymous donations towards his cause.

"I am unable to speak and I have no control of my body but I am a very intelligent person – it’s just my body doesn’t do what I want it to do,” he said through a translator, according to the Ely Weekly News. "I managed to complete the marathon – even in the wind and rain… I am so grateful to everybody’s support and have lots more fundraising events in the pipeline."

While King is an example of how determination and toughness can make it possible to leave a normal life with a birth injury, it is also a sad reminder that many with the condition struggle to fund their way of life.
