MD Hospitals Offer Hep C Testing

In light of the hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter Hospital in New Hampshire, four Maryland hospitals are offering free testing for the disease to about 1,750 people who were treated at the hospitals.

David Kwiatkowski, who worked as a traveling medical technician, is accused of causing the Hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter hospital. He has now been linked to hospitals in at least seven states, according to the Baltimore Sun. The hospitals where he worked have begun testing patients who may have been infected.

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene officials are examining how medical contract workers are regulated in that state and may strengthen rules over access to narcotics in hospitals, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Kwiatkowski allegedly injected himself with syringes filled with stolen drugs before reusing the syringes on patients.
