A Pennsylvania jury awarded $4.2 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit to a woman who suffered a series of strokes that left her with severe memory loss and partially blind.

Sandra J. Powel was admitted to Moses Taylor Hospital in 2003 after suffering multiple strokes, according to the Times-Tribune. She experienced another “massive” stroke after she was discharged from the hospital three months later, according to the complaint. Powel claimed that Dr. Joseph C. Seprosky Jr. - her family physician - and Dr. Daniel M. McNabb, M.D. - a doctor at Moses Taylor Hospital - were negligent in treating her and caused her injuries.

She alleged that Dr. Seprosky failed to realize the importance of a report from a Wayne County neurologist sent to him after she was discharged from the hospital.

The medical malpractice lawsuit states, "It is alleged that Dr. Seprosky should have been aware of the risk of continued and further strokes."

The jury found Dr. Seprosky negligent but decided Dr. McNabb was not liable for her injuries.
