Miles for Meso Race Raises $25,000

Approximately $25,000  was recently raised through the Simmons Law Firm for mesothelioma research following the 4th annual running of the Miles for Meso 5K race and walk.

“This year’s Miles for Meso was a resounding success,” said Gregg Kirkland, the CEO of Simmons, which is a partner firm of Sokolove Law. “Thanks to the support of everyone who attended, our volunteers and our sponsors, this event continues to help raise awareness about the horrible disease of mesothelioma.”

The Miles for Meso 5K had been run in Alton, IL since 2009 to raise money for mesothelioma research through the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF), a national charity focused on mesothelioma research and patient support. The Simmons Firm has been MARF’s top cumulative donor since its inception in 2000.

Despite the decrease in asbestos usage since the 1980s, the mineral is still legal to use under certain circumstances. It is also a known carcinogen and the primary cause of mesothelioma, the deadly lung cancer that is diagnosed in 2,000 to 3,000 Americans every year.
